Corofin
The Gateway to the Burren
Corofin is known as the gateway to the Burren. It sits on the banks of the river Fergus under the shadow of Mullaghmore on the edge of the Burren.
Clare Heritage and Genealogical centre is located in the village and is well worth a visit to see the museum or to trace your roots.
Corofin Village offers a variety of eating and drinking options to suit any budget and in many of the pubs there will be music especially at peak tourist season
From Corofin you can visit many of Clare and Irelands premier tourist attractions including Bunratty Castle and Folk park, Ailwee Cave, Cliffs of Moher, Dysart O'Dea archaelogical centre, Clare museum, Craggaunowen and many more.
The Burren
The Burren is unique in that it is the only Karst region in Western Europe. It is made up of porous limestone rock which accounts for the underground rivers and the magical cave formations - Aillwee Cave is the most famous for these cave formations.
During late Spring, the famous Burren wild flowers can be seen at their best. The landscape has a lunar appearance, especially after a shower, and is truly a magical place.
